Citation: The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Nizel Rafalsky, Sergeant, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Verdun, France, October 9 - 12, 1918. During the drive in which this regiment took part in the vicinity of the Meuse, Sergeant Rafalsky displayed great courage and presence of mind in attending to the wounded, not only of the organization to which he was attached but also of those in adjoining organizations. The exceptionally valuable service performed by this soldier was done under heavy shell and machine-gun fire.
