Citation: The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Irving Sirota, Private First Class, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Binarville, France, October 2 - 7, 1918. Private Sirota was on duty with a detachment of his regiment which was cut off and surrounded by the enemy in the Forest of Argonne. During this period he was without food, but he continued to assist and give first aid to the wounded exposing himself to heavy shell and machine-gun fire at the risk of his life, until he was completely exhausted.
