Citation: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Wagoner Benjamin Gonzales (ASN: 748181), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 3d Ammunition Train, 3d Division, A.E.F., near Crezancy and Chateau-Thierry, France, 15 July 1918. While on duty with the 30th Infantry, Wagoner Gonzales saw an officer and two soldiers killed while attempting to remove company records which were in danger of capture. He then left his dugout, succeeded in bringing up a truck, loaded what records he could, and after assisting several wounded men into the truck drove it out under heavy shell fire.
