Military Honor(s):

Distinguished Service Cross

Citation: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Second Lieutenant (Air Service) Edward M. Morris, United States Army Air Service, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 104th Aero Squadron, U.S. Army Air Service, A.E.F., near Landres-et-St. Georges, France, 30 October 1918. Unable, to complete a photographic mission, owing to motor trouble, Lieutenant Morris, with his observer, made a reconnaissance behind the German lines. They dispersed a battalion of enemy troops, and although twice attacked by enemy patrols, drove them off and each case brought down one enemy plane. They remained in the air until their motor failed completely.
