Citation: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Emanuel Sustick (ASN: 1698549), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company L, 305th Infantry Regiment, 77th Division, A.E.F., near Bois-de-la Naza, France, 4 October 1918. Sergeant Sustick volunteered to advance through thick brush subjected to a heavy machine-gun fire to a point within a few yards of enemy emplacements in order to observe the effects of our trench mortars on machine-gun nests.
